Hand-forged shears for bonsai and ikebana flower arrangements. This type of shear is sometimes called Satsuki or azalea shear. With long handles and a short, pointed, fairly robust blade, these shears are designed for precision in a dense bonsai crown with small fine branches, while also suitable for slightly thicker flower stems (excluding roses, etc.). The shear provides a neat, easily healed cut. The edge is very sharp and hardened to maintain sharpness for a long time.

Characteristic of these pointed Japanese shears is their tips that overlap to ensure they cut all the way to the tip. (See image.)

The shear is crafted by the Japanese company Wazakura, located in Niigata Prefecture on the island of Honshu in Japan. The shear is hand-forged in carbon steel in the traditional Japanese way. It has good sharpness, but like all good tools, it needs maintenance. Sap needs to be wiped off or sometimes washed away. Then it should be thoroughly dried and preferably lubricated with, for example, camellia oil for rust protection and lubrication.

Below you will find a video on how to take care of your Wazakura tools:
