Japanese hand-forged garden shears/bonsai shears/ashinaga. This is a sturdy shear with slightly curved handles. Perfect for cutting flowers, branches, etc. It also works very well for ikebana, Japanese flower arrangements. The shear has a comfortable, slightly angled grip with decent leverage and space for all fingers.
The shear is hand-forged in carbon steel in the traditional Japanese way in Niigata, Japan. It provides clean cuts that heal more effectively because the shear does not tear the surface and invite fungal or viral attacks.
It has very good sharpness, but like all good tools, it needs maintenance. Sap needs to be wiped off or sometimes washed away. Then it should be thoroughly dried and preferably lubricated with, for example, camellia oil for rust protection and lubrication.
