Japanese hand-forged root hook from the Japanese company Wazakura. The root hook provides a cylindrical cut. It has long arms to provide good leverage. It can handle approximately 6 – 10 mm roots. The edge is very sharp and hardened to maintain sharpness for a long time. Please try to avoid cutting into soil and sand particles. The tool can also be used as a branch cutter and as a trunk splitter for small trees. (If you use it as a root hook, wash it before using it for other purposes.)
The tool is hand-forged in carbon steel in the traditional Japanese way. It has good sharpness, but like all good tools, it needs maintenance. Sap needs to be wiped off or sometimes washed away. Then it should be thoroughly dried and preferably lubricated with, for example, camellia oil for rust protection and lubrication. You should also make sure to remove stones and sand from the roots before the procedure. Otherwise, both the edge of the tool and the roots will be damaged.
